There’s lots of software code in the world â€" Google alone has more than 2 billion lines of code in its repository.  So, the idea of learning a variety of coding languages can be a bit daunting.  Getting a little coding experience under your belt as a recruiter in tech is an incredibly valuable skill to have. One conversation that I hear far too often at tech meetups developers and software engineers are continuously mistaken for technologies they have limited knowledge of. For example, [Software Engineer] â€" is not always the same as a Backend Developer. Thus many candidates avoid responding to LinkedIn InMails from recruiters. Sure technology titles can be a bit confusing even for the most technical people out therelearning programming languages will help many of us [recruiters] avoid that awkward moment where you mistakenly reach out to a Java Developer with a JavaScript Developer role. A common mistake: Focusing on years of experience â€" this can be a tough one for recruiters [including me] to assess. Throughout my technical recruitment career I’ve come across candidates who have worked for big box corporations and other candidates that have worked with small startup companies. So, which candidate has the stronger technical background? It depends. Tip: don’t exclude candidates experience solely based on their previous employers. Speak with candidates about what they’ve worked on â€" it’s important to probe/get to know their skill set. Have the candidate speak on their project work, challenges they encountered within their role, successes and achievements. In addition, find out how your candidate keeps up with different technology trends- and what their passionate about. Here are some other things to do right now to get you started: When I began my career in technical recruitment I decided to take courses with Lynda.com . This online learning platform allows anyone to learn software and technology in an easy-at-your-own-pace format. Also, check out local coding schools in your area â€" Vancouver has some pretty amazing schools â€" Lighthouse Labs and CodeCore Bootcamp. In Los Angeles, General Assembly is pretty popular too. Keep in mind a bit of your own personal time, don’t forget tuition, goes into taking courses through a coding school. Like all things out there â€" change is going to happen. Programming languages are bound to evolve, so keeping up with technology and trends can be a tough one â€" how can we [recruiters] ensure we are staying up-to-date with tech knowledge? Between now and the end of the year attend meetup group events. And its OK to sit in the back and observe. Youll get more comfortable the more you do it its important to go out there and meet programmers, developers, and engineers â€" they are happy to share their insights on trends, tools, cool stuff in general plus its important to do some genuine networking. You may not be an expert at coding but be good enough and your candidates will trust you with their career.

Its fun and its also  amazing what youll start to notice.  Add to that an  attitude of warm friendliness  toward those around you and youll find yourself becoming more magnetic to people and more interested in them as well. Some of these people, from time to time, will be quality single guys you may want to date.   Some may be women who know a great guy for you and would be happy to introduce you. Tip #3 Create strategies  for how youd like to meet quality single guys. Consider  broad strategies  like going to places where lots of men gather such as sports bars for  Monday  Night Football and  car shows.    Consider  participating in activities that attract many guys like golf and working out at the gym.    Narrow  strategies   focus on places and activities where men with specific interests can be found. For example, a guy whos an animal lover may be a volunteer training dogs for the blind or rescuing injured wildlife. To meet guys with these interests, youll want to check out venues where they may be volunteering.    Open environments  like festivals, wedding receptions, waiting rooms and lines provide natural opportunities to talk to those around you.   When youre in an open environment,   remind  yourself to be aware of   attractive guys nearby  and be willing to smile and say hi. Tip #4 Before online dating came on the scene,  networking  with friends, relatives and others you know was a common and powerful way to get introduced to great guys. And heres a little secret it still is!   You can do strategic networking by making a list of everyone you can think of from your present and your past who may know a great guy for you, and gradually contacting those who are fans of yours to ask for an introduction if they know anyone who may be a good match for you.   Where Are the Good Guys gives you a blueprint on how to have these conversations in a way that will  feel comfortable to you. Tip #5 Do you have to feel instant chemistry to be interested in dating a guy? What No One Tells You About Traveling With Credit Cards When we travel, we always try to use credit cards whenever possible. There is a lot of debate out there as to the benefits and drawbacks of credit cards when it comes to being financially responsible. This is how we choose to handle our  credit cards: -We pay them off each month, in full. -We watch our spending and still budget. -We never spend more than we make -We still track everything we buy. This, however, is not a post as to why you should use credit cards in lifethis is specifically about why we use them more when we travel. Here are a few reasons why we choose to use plastic when we travel. What No One Tells You About Traveling With Credit Cards 1. Credit Card Theft Protection Your credit card likely has protection against theft. On more than one occasion, most recently when we went to Brazil, our credit card number was stolen while we were traveling. Our physical card was still in our possession but the number was taken. This last time they managed to rack up $15,000 of charges (our credit limit) all during the time we were on overseas flights back to the states. This was not the first time this has happened.  Although it is a hassle to get a new card, Im not out any money when this happens because I used my credit card. If they get a hold of cash or a debt cardyou likely wont have that protection. 2. Better Exchange Rate The exchange rate with a credit card is typically better than the desk at the airport when exchanging cash. Credit card purchases are exchanged at the inter-bank exchange rate, which is almost always better than the currency exchange desk. 3.  Fees Waived Make sure youre using a card without any foreign transaction fees. Capital One is known for being great about this. Then youre avoiding the fees that you would incur if you were withdrawing from an ATM. Some banks also waive ATM fees too, but not as many as credit cards. 4. No Leftover Money Whenever possible we try not to have leftover money when traveling. You probably paid a fee to withdraw it from an ATM, or if not you still will likely pay a worse rate at the money exchange counter when you leave. Skip the fees, use the card. When you use the card, there is no such thing as leftover money that you have to spend on trinkets at the airport on your way back home. 5. Track Spending This is why I use credit cards most of the time, but also it is great to track spending when youre traveling. Even if it is just to go back and tell your friend who is planning a similar trip how much you spent on X when you visited. 6. Handle Disputes Unfortunately, sometimes you will have to dispute charges and it makes it easier when youve paid for the purchase on a credit card. For example, paying upfront for a hotel and then finding out they are booked solidand they move you over to a cheaper hotel without giving you a refund for what you paid at the larger fancy hotel? (Can you tell this has happened to me?) Good thing for credit card disputes, as you can dispute not receiving the item you paid for. This also happened recently when we purchased a video of our hang gliding adventure. We purchased CDs of the adventure, and when we came home one was corrupted. We are able to get a refund for the charge  right away. 7. Extra Protection Did you know your credit card may have extra protection like coverage on your rental car or even trip insurance! Some even cover lost bags, arrange medical help (ambulance) if you are hurt and over 100 miles from home and even  prescription assistance if you forgot your pills at home! 8. Points/Perks You may have a card that gives you double points for traveling! May as well use it if youre buying it anyway! If you have certain airline/hotel cards you can even get free upgrades, free extra checked baggage, free breakfast/room upgrades and special lounges at airports! 9. Cash Do we use cash? Yes of course we do.  We use it for more on the side spending than anything else. In some countries, cash is still king. For example Cairo, Egypt was next to impossible to use a credit card. Rio was a mix and it depended on if we  sat down to eat  or if we dined at  small food carts. Ireland and most of Europe we do almost everything on card, and use cash for various markets and smaller vendors. However, we also do our best to use our card whenever possible! My final tips for you about using credit cards when traveling: Always inform your credit card and banks that you will be traveling. If not (and even sometimes when you do) they may cancel them if they see charges in other countries. Make sure they have an email rather than phone number to contact you if youre shutting off your phone for the trip. Also, bring a backup card just in case you lose your card, or it is shut off.  Also, dont use your debit card for anything except withdrawing from your ATMit is too risky. If youre needing to use the ATM card for some reason, get cashthen pay in cash. Happy traveling!

Naturally, with such a high learning curve and set of requirements, you will need to make sure that you meet the Royal Navy eligibility criteria. However, there are places available in the Wellbeck Defence Sixth Form College for people who are 15 years of age. Candidates who are under the 18 will need parental or guardian consent. Please remember that the age requirements for each role can vary, so be sure to research the particular role that you are seeking to achieve prior to application.If you’re too young to apply for the navy right now, then don’t worry, because you can still join the Sea Cadets. The Sea Cadets help to prepare young people for a life in the Navy, with an emphasis on leadership, group and practical skills.The upper age limit for Royal Navy is 36, again depending on the role that you are applying for. Once you join the Navy, you will be enlisted for a period of minimum 4 years. Medical standardsAgain, the medical standards required for joining the Royal Navy will depend upon the role that you are applying for. Are you continuously updating your resume What to include… Most people will say no, they are not updating their resume continuously. Nine times out of ten when I’m working with a new client, they say their resume is out of date. Some have not even looked at it in years! I understand that, and what happens when our resume writer,  Jasmine Marchong, begins to work on their resume, they have trouble remembering the key accomplishments they want to include over the years. It takes more time to dig through your memory banks or performance reviews than it would to simply update your resume every six to twelve months. A great time to update your resume is before your performance review so that you can use it as the catalyst to get you going. A couple of other things to keep in mind as well: 1. Update your LinkedIn profile at the same time! 2. Keep a master resume with all of your work experience and accomplishments. This will make it easier when it’s time to start a new job search.
